Darksword Armory viking sword and dagger

Today I received my other set of weapons in the mail. Not that it’s really a set, but it’s a sword and dagger regardless. If you aren’t sure what I’m referring to with “other”, see these posts. So I finally got the right sword and another dagger I fancied at a discount. I have to say that Eyal(owner/blacksmith) from Darksword Armory is a stand up guy. Good quality blades and good support, there’s a reason why he/they have a good reputation, do check them out! :) .

I really do fancy these blades, they feel pretty good in the hand, though the sword’s on the heavy side of things. But that’s what their swords are known for, that and their extreme durability.

Sabaton – Carolus Rex Limited Edition album

So I just received my new Sabaton album in the mail together with some other albums. This was a pleasant surprise for sure. What I didn’t expect though was what I got: a huge artbook with 2 albums in it. They really went all-out with the limited edition this time. I also have the limited edition of the previous album; Coat of Arms.

The book contains the 2 discs, lyrics from every track with big fancy artwork in it and a little story what the song is about, if it weren’t obvious enough from the text… which in many cases it isn’t as I’m sure not everyone’s too up to date on their Swedish empire knowledge. It also features some notes from the bandmembers and it feels like a really solid piece of art as well, the images are simply gorgeous to look at. I don’t regret throwing a few extra bucks at them for this. :)

Carach Angren – Little Hector what have you done?

This song when I first heard it sounded great to me. Nice speed, symphonic. However I started listening to the lyrics and found quite a shocking tale being told here. I love it when songs make you think/shock you.

Here’s the lyrics as far as I can make them out (No official lyrics are out yet/ neither is the album).

Lyrics:

“Hector was 9 years old, old for his time. One day he made this horrible portrait of a dead man and his child. The teacher was shocked, how could such a young lad draw a picture so sad? Hector was asked to explain. He replied; it is me and daddy in the attic; Hanging.

When we are dead, cold and dead. Cold and dead. Cold and dead.

Later that day, the boy left school early, had to run away. When he came home, he found his daddy’s revolver. Now it’s time to play! When his father slept, his son blew his brain all over the bed. Then he went upstairs to the attic there he capped himself through the head.

Cold and dead.

Mother, a moment’s song. Lost her husband, mother came home and saw her son, her soul collapsed and her heart froze. After the funerals, she took an overdose.
It is the house. It is the house, Haunted! The house is cursed, the house is damned, bewitched! Touched, by the devil’s hand. The house is bitter and sad; Bewitched. It’s somehow proof in real torment?

Once upon a time during the war; the Nazi’s came and breached down this door; AUFSTEHEN! The men had to stand and see; ?????? All their women get raped, so brutally… so hard *maniacal laughter*

Cold and dead

Father resisted and for that he was taken upstairs, after his boy with his hands tied to his back and another rope around his neck.  They made him stand upon the shoulders of his own dear son. Unfortunately the child could not hold his dad back up. For several days he stood among his ravished and executed family. Eventually he flingered? a rope out of his bedsheets and hung himself next to daddy.”

Games I’m considering let’s playing to replace NWN2 now that it’s done

So I finished recording Neverwinter Nights 2 yesterday, which was very enjoyable. This then leaves me with the option of LP’ing another game and there are actually a bunch of them that I want to do. In fact, a several of them I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. Here are some of the games I’ve been thinking of doing:

Little Big Adventure 1 + 2
LBA being the first game I uploaded footage for, ever, and me still loving the memories of those games, I really want to go through them. I own them on GOG but am still having issues processing the footage. I can record the video/audio just fine, along with my own commentary, however when I want to edit them together is where I still struggle. It seems that none of my editing software can handle the ZMBV codec that dosbox uses. The codec works fine to display the video, but I need to merge and edit the files.

Maybe I should give the windows ports another go, I see they’ve updated them a couple of times since I last tried them.

Little Big Adventure

Jagged Alliance 2
Much like LBA, this was the second game I ever recorded and uploaded with the intention of finishing it, since I never had before. In the end, I managed to fail in that purpose. But I still want to finish it and see that game through, it’s simply too good and forms a stain on my gaming “career” even outside of not having finished recording it. I did a test recording and all is well with that, should I choose it. I would be playing it with the 1.13 mod which adds/improves/changes a lot of things.

I’m hardly an expert, but everyone says that if you’re going to play JA2.. it’s got to be with that mod and from what I’ve seen; that seems accurate.

Jagged Alliance 2

NOX
Yes, I do want to play some “new” games too. :P NOX was again one of those games that I never completed as a kid, I remember getting decently far into it but getting horribly stuck somewhere. It’s a game that I really enjoyed at the time and even when playing it a little before I got it again on GOG, it was enjoyable. I normally don’t care about hack’n'slashers, but NOX is special somehow. With it’s charm and unique way of handling field of view, it feels very different from other games to me.

Nox

Max Payne
Not sure if you can call the Max Payne games classics, but from what I’ve seen the third game looks to be quite interesting and pretty good. As such I want to play through the original 2 again as they were great games. I would merely be let’s playing them instead of playing them “solo”. This would mean basically 3 games though, but probably spread out with a little time in between them.

Max Payne

Gemini Rue
An oldschool-styled adventure game made by a small developer? The first ~20 minutes or so that I’ve seen from it really impressed me and made me want to play through it. I don’t really know much else about it other than it getting good reviews and I really want to play it.

So tell me guys, anything you really want to see me do? Now’d be the time to let me know! ;)

Looking for my own place and starting a study

So as some of you may know, I’m still currently living with my father. We get on okay and we don’t really speak much, so it’s sort of like having a free rented place. However I’ve really gotten the itch to move out and get the fuck on with my life, a while ago. Which is both terrifying and exciting, it’s a strange feeling I suppose. I’ve recently started working full-time whereas I only worked part-time before. I am starting a new 3-4 year study in september which I’m really excited for as well. And I’m going to be living on my own as well. So that’s a lot of changes in a relatively short time.

Let’s start off with the easiest of subjects; the study I’ll be following. As you may know, I’m a system administrator who’s been working in a linux environment for the last couple of years and there’s a lot of focus on networking and security. My study’s one of the very very few in the country where the focus lies on networking. As such, the name may not surprise you; Network Infrastructure Design. It’s focused on mainly Cisco courses (CCNA and CCNP-level) and then Microsoft parts, coming from the linux side; not really looking forward to the Microsoft parts, but at least a proper going through exchange should be okay.

I’m actually going to be doing that study because I feel like I’ve way underachieved thus far in my education. Due to my teens I dropped a bunch in highschool and as such ended up on a lower level than I can handle and have basically been sleeping through my system administrator study and I haven’t been too happy with that fact. As such I’m mainly doing it for myself, I find it to be interesting either way and it certainly won’t harm my career either of course.

So about moving out, it seems that I have somewhat underestimated how much I’m making currently and thought that buying a house/apartment would be way out of my league. I had been looking at renting mainly and finding any space around for rent is a nightmare pretty much. My town is a “student town” and there’s a lot of people trying to get a place here, it’s not going to work unless you have a lot of years of being registered to have been looking for a place. Though I did find some nice apartments at a good location, but there’s always several people ahead of you if you say that you’re interested, so that may take several years still.

I ran into some apartments in the center of town that’re aimed at starters (such as myself) which are completely new and seem like an excellent deal for the price. As such I contacted them and will be getting a call about going to see the apartments (there’s several with varying prices in that building still). I’m very excited/curious about it. Knowing that I can afford a decent amount has certainly helped with my look on things. :)

Update on the new sword

I posted some pictures of a new sword I had gotten recently and I never really elaborated on that. The thing was that I had actually ordered a different viking sword and I was mailing back and forth with the guy who actually smithes the swords, who is also owner of the business. He apologized and we eventually agreed upon him giving me a discount since I didn’t dislike the look of this sword and still wanted the other. Eyal Azerad was actually very nice about it all and reasonable.

So I’m now going to be re-ordering the same sword and an added dagger with a provided discount. The sword being the 11th c. Viking sword and the dagger being the Henry V dagger that I think looks quite nice, despite me not having the Henry V sword. But I’m looking forward to getting those babies for sure. :)

3 Inches of Blood, Goatwhore, Angelus Apatrida, HAVOK concert – Baroeg 05-06-2012

This weekend I had another concert, one in a small venue in Rotterdam. It’s a good venue though, always a good atmosphere around it and there’s some good bands playing there if you’re really into metal as most are deathmetal or blackmetal. Which is part of why I like that venue, they cater to subgenres, and they do it well.

So, I drove over in the early afternoon as the concert started really early since it was on a sunday. I arrived just after 3pm, with the first band starting at 3:30pm.

HAVOK

It was time for HAVOK to hit it off, and boy they did. They really got the crowd going from the first moment until the very last second. I have to say that I was mainly there to see them, as I find their “Time Is Up” album to be of mindblowing quality, and it seems the crowd thought similarly. They played a great set including “Scumbag in Disguise”, “Covering Fire” and ofcourse “DOA”.

Some people in the crowd yelled that they should’ve been the headliner and frankly, I wholeheartedly agree.

Angelus Apatrida

After that first great show it was up to the second thrashmetal band of the day, Angelus Apatrida. They’re a lot more mellow than HAVOK in comparison and they clearly didn’t have too many fans around as the crowd interaction was… barely existant. I still appreciate their spirit and they were entertaining, there’s definitely potential in their music. Though if you ask me, it’s better suited to be listened to on album.

Goatwhore

Then after having been mellowed out somewhat, it was time for some deathmetal with black influences, aka… Goatwhore. They stand out among the other bands as their sound is a lot heavier compared to the rest. Maybe it was because of this that it took a while for me to get into it, or maybe they just didn’t start off too great. But once they got going and played some thrashier songs and ending with “Apocalyptic Havoc”, it was a great show. I have to say that the frontman’s quite a guy. Looking at him does leave an impression I can tell you that much.

3 Inches of Blood

Time for the headliner then, which funnily enough is the “softest” band on the bill with their heavy metal. They’re really entertaining and they started off really strong by playing Metal Woman from their last album (which is a song I love) and the really popular Deadly Sinners. This made for a nice start, but it made for an early peak in the show, it would’ve been better to play those last in my opinion.

They put on a good and enjoyable show and I am glad to have seen them.

I got home around 9pm which was really weird to me as concerts normally only start to get going around that time. As such I had time to eat some and read before going to bed. It was a very good afternoon/evening full of all sorts of metal and I’ll definitely see HAVOK anytime they’re around here in the future.

Received my Viking sword

So I got my viking sword delivered today, it was in a big box and wrapped in layer upon layer of plastic wraps. This was actually much more protection than I’d  expected that to give.
